Communication is the most fundamental human right—it is how we express our joy, share our needs, and connect with the world. At Ehsaas Matimand Mulanche Balgruh, many of our students face severe speech, language, and cognitive barriers. Because our residents are placed with us through court directives—often coming from backgrounds of deep vulnerability—teaching them to communicate is our highest priority. It is the key that unlocks their safety, agency, and emotional healing.
Our Communication Development Program bridges the gap between isolation and expression, ensuring that no child in our residential care goes unheard, whether they speak through words, signs, or expressions.
Our Specialized Communication Framework
We understand that communication looks different for every child. Our tailored approach focuses on building functional, real-world expression through diverse pathways:
Speech & Articulation Therapy: For students with a baseline of verbal ability, our educators work patiently on sound formation, vocabulary building, and sentence structure to help them express their daily needs clearly.
Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC): For non-verbal or minimally verbal children, we utilize visual tools, picture cards (PECS), and communication boards. By pointing to symbols for “hungry,” “hurt,” or “happy,” students gain an immediate, frustration-free voice.
Expressive Body Language & Gestures: We train students to use functional gestures and basic sign cues. Understanding and expressing physical cues helps them navigate interactions safely within the residential home.
Receptive Language Skills: Communication is a two-way street. We teach our children how to listen, comprehend basic instructions, recognize safety warnings, and follow daily routines smoothly.
Social Communication & Peer Interaction: Through structured group activities, storytelling, and music therapy, students practice the joy of back-and-forth interaction, learning to share, take turns, and bond with their peers.
